As a travel medical insurance plan, Atlas Travel includes extensive medical benefits so you are covered for eligible unexpected emergencies or illnesses that might occur while you are traveling.  Atlas Travel insurance offers you valuable medical benefits at a low price. With Atlas Travel insurance, you choose the deductible (out of pocket) amount you are willing to pay and the maximum coverage amount that you want to be covered for during your trip.  You can select a deductible as low as zero dollars if you want to limit your out of pocket expenses and a maximum coverage amount of up to one million dollars for the most coverage.1 The information listed below is a guide to your medical benefits with Atlas Travel. All eligible medical benefits are subject to deductible and coinsurance.

How Atlas Travel Works

Deductible – You pay the selected deductible chosen at the time of purchase to your medical providers for any incurred medical expenses.

Coinsurance – Outside of the U.S. or within the PPO network, you have zero out of pocket cost for eligible medical expenses up to the overall maximum limit of your policy.  If you choose to use an out of network provider, HCCMIS will pay 80% of eligible medical expenses up to $5,000 and then 100% of eligible medical expenses for anything over $5,000.

Pre-existing Conditions

With Atlas Travel insurance, you have coverage for the acute onset of a pre-existing condition if you seek treatment within twenty-four hours of the sudden and unexpected re-occurrence.

Acute Onset of Pre-existing Condition Limits:

$100,000 lifetime limit for eligible medical expenses for all coverage maximum greater than $50,000; otherwise $50,000 Lifetime Limit for Eligible Medical Expenses
$25,000 Lifetime Limit for Emergency Medical Evacuation 

In-Patient Hospitalization Expenses covered by Atlas Travel Insurance

  • Semi-private hospital room including room and board costs
  • Nursing services
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Surgery and surgical services including the operating, treating, and recovery room following surgery
  • Dressings, sutures, casts, and other medically necessary supplies administered by a physician
  • Diagnostic testing (includes radiology, ultrasounds, and laboratory services)
  • Oxygen and anesthesia administered by a physician
  • Ambulance transportation to the hospital5
  • Out Patient Hospital Services covered by Atlas Travel Insurance
  • Emergency room treatment for an injury
  • Emergency room treatment for an illness (must be admitted to the hospital as an inpatient for additional treatment)
  • Diagnostic testing (includes radiology, ultrasounds, and laboratory services)
  • Physical therapy
  • Physician Benefits covered by Atlas Travel Insurance
  • Coverage for doctor’s visits is included with Atlas Travel insurance and is subject to your deductible and coinsurance. For covered injuries or illnesses, selecting a low deductible and seeking care from an in-network doctor will likely limit your out-of-pocket expenses.  You may search for in-network physicians here. There are an unlimited number of doctor’s visits allowed with Atlas Travel for eligible medical conditions for the duration of the policy.

  • Extended care facility services if directly transferred from acute care hospital8
  • Emergency dental treatment for pain
  • Emergency dental treatment due to an accident
  • Rental of basic hospital bed or wheelchair
  • Pregnancy complications occurring during the first twenty-six weeks of gestation
  • Injuries due to non-contact and non-organized amateur sports and athletic activities
  • Prescription Drugs (maximum sixty-day supply per prescription)

Select Exclusions

  • Routine physical, vision, or dental exams and immunizations unrelated to a covered injury or illness
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexually transmitted diseases and conditions
  • Treatment of mental health disorders and self-inflicted injury or illness
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of all forms of cancer or neoplasm
  • Acne, other acne, moles, skin tags, diseases of sebaceous glands, seborrhea, sebaceous cyst, unspecified disease of sebaceous glands, and hypertrophic and atrophic conditions of skin.
  • Chiropractic treatment
  • Orthopedic shoes, orthopedic prescription devices, and the treatment of weak, strained, flat, unstable or unbalanced feet, metatarsalgia or bunions, and treatment of corns, calluses or toenails.
