Winter Weather Tips for Travel

Winter weather-travel-tips

Recently, numerous winter storms have affected travel in the Midwest, Southeast and along the East coast leading to the highest number of flight cancellations in 25 years.

In light of this activity, the insurance carriers are currently experiencing increased claims and assistance requests. To help expedite the service process, below are some tips for you as you travel during the winter months.

For travelers who have not yet departed on their trip:

  • We encourage you to contact your airline or travel supplier first, as most suppliers are servicing travelers who are currently being impacted.

For travelers who are currently experiencing a trip interruption or delay:

  • It is beneficial to work with your original airline first, to see how you could be re-accommodated.
  • The 24/7 Assistance Line provider may contact the airline on the traveler’s behalf while the customer is waiting. If you are standing in line at the airport while on the phone with the assistance line, we do not suggest that you get out of line. It is easier to get the required documentation from the airline agent in person, than calling the carrier on the phone.
  • 24/7 Assistance will always offer to investigate alternative flights as a possible solution. However, please be advised that any new flight purchased would be an out of pocket expense which may be reimbursable after filing a claim, depending on the policy provisions.

The most important step for a claims process: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!
